A brand new trim model, the 2024 GMC Sierra 2500 AT4X, will soon join GMC’s heavy-duty lineup. It’ll be equipped for serious adventure, with more standard off-roading gear than GMC’s heavy-duty trucks have ever offered. We don’t know everything about this upcoming off-road-ready heavy-duty pickup, but our preview guide is here to give you an idea of what to expect.
What is the 2024 GMC Sierra 2500 AT4X?
The AT4X will be the most trail-ready heavy-duty truck in the Sierra HD lineup. It will expand on the already-adventurous AT4 with a longer list of standard features, including bigger all-terrain tires. Although an official spec sheet isn’t out at the moment, we expect this model to be similar to the new 2023 Sierra 1500 AT4X model. If you’re a Chevy fan, you can think of the AT4X as GMC’s version of the ZR2, Chevy’s most trail-friendly pickup.
Which off-roading features are included with the 2024 GMC Sierra 2500 AT4X?
Although GMC has yet to announce the official Sierra 2500 AT4X roster, we have a hunch that it will build on the AT4 lineup. And we know that the AT4 includes:
- Two-speed AutoTrac transfer case with active automatic four-wheel drive
- Off-road suspension with twin-tube Rancho shocks and skid plates
- Traction select system with Off-Road and Tow/Haul modes
- Hill descent control and hill start assist
With the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X, the light-duty version of this road-trip-ready pickup truck, we know that it adds to the AT4 lineup with bigger 33-inch mud-terrain tires. The heavy-duty version of the AT4X may deliver a similar setup, along with steel bumpers and upgraded skid plates.
When you choose the Sierra 2500 AT4X, you’ll be able to choose from the same two engines available for GMC’s other heavy-duty trucks:
- Standard 6.6L V8 gas-powered engine (410 horsepower, 464 lb-ft of torque)
- Optional 6.6L Duramax turbo-diesel V8 engine (470 hp, 975 lb-ft)
Both options are paired with an Allison 10-speed automatic transmission, which is specially designed for moving heavy weight, increasing power and torque over the truck’s speed range.
What else do I need to know about the 2024 GMC Sierra 2500 AT4X?
Once again, we’re in the dark about the Sierra 2500 AT4X’s exact specifications. However, GMC has announced a few highlights for the AT4 model, and the AT4X will probably be similarly equipped. Highlights include:
- Gloss-Black aluminum wheels
- Front leather seating with perforated surfaces
- Jet Black interior with Kalahari accents
- Heated and ventilated front seats
- 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster
- 13.4-inch central touchscreen
- Optional 15-inch multicolor head-up display
When can I order the 2024 GMC Sierra 2500 AT4X?
We’ve still got a while to wait for this rugged heavy-duty pickup truck. The other trim models are scheduled for a spring 2023 release, but the AT4X isn’t slated to join the lineup until later in the year. GMC hasn’t announced an official release date just yet, so we assume that you’ll be able to order yours in late 2023.
However, we’re sure to get information before then, so check back later for an exact date! Or simply call us at Reliable GMC, and we’ll get back to you when it’s time to build your Sierra 2500 AT4X.
