The 2023 Cadillac Lyriq will be Cadillac’s first luxury electric vehicle. This electric luxury midsize SUV introduces a new generation of battery technology, dynamic styling and Cadillac’s latest technology. The GMC Hummer EV Pickup has debuted and returns the Hummer badge to the American roads – this time fueled by electricity and technology. Let’s take a look at both.
Design
The new Cadillac Lyriq will feature seating for five and a center console that divides the two front seats; along with a bench rear seat with a touchscreen for the rear seat passengers. The cabin is spacious for passengers to be comfortable, with plenty of legroom and a large storage area for handbags near the floor; as well as two storage cubbies on the dash. The Lyriq has new vertical signature lighting and a transparent crystal black pseudo grille motif with pinstriping and the Cadillac crest that lights up. There will be four choices of trims: Luxury, Premium Luxury, Sport, and Platinum; with a starting price of $59,995 for the Luxury that ranges to an estimated $90,000 for the Platinum.
The GMC Hummer EV truck is a four-door convertible with an infinity roof and removable roof panels, and a support structure that is in the shape of the letter “T.” It’s design elements distinguish the Hummer with its six-bar grille front lighting, upright windshield, low-turret roof profile, and unique taillamps. A towing ground clearance made possible with specially engineered 35” tires gives you an optimal balance on and off the road. The Edition 1 is the sole model available for the first year. All Edition 1 trims are white with a black roof, bronze-colored wheels, and a two-tone black-and-gray interior with bronze accents and Edition 1 badges. The is edition has a starting price tag of $112,595. Lower priced trims are set to come out later this year.
Technology
A curved 33.0-inch LED digital touchscreen display with an array of colors and a 19-speaker AKG Studio audio system and headrest speakers will be in the interior of the 2023 Cadillac Lyrig. This will feature GM’s new android Automotive-based infotainment system that will display Google Play store for downloading apps, the Google Assistant and Google maps in the cluster directly in front of the driver. The Lyriq also offers available Super Cruise: GM’s highway hands-free driver-assistance technology with automated lane change capability. Key safety features will include automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, available lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, and available adaptive cruise control with semi-autonomous driving mode.
Available UltraVision with up to eighteen camera views including underbody and forward and rear-facing cameras is an option on the Hummer EV. Surround Vision allows you to maneuver off-road and navigate tight spaces when traveling at low speeds. GM’s driver assistance system with its Super Cruise allows for automatic lane change and hands-free driving on compatible highways. A digital key, GMC’s MultiPro Tailgate, and a giant 13.4-inch infotainment display are other nice conveniences.
Power
The Lyriq will come standard with an electric motor on the rear axle and rear-wheel drive. All-wheel drive will be optional, with a second motor added at the front. The rear-wheel drive model is said to produce 340 horsepower. Cadillac claims that the Lyriq will offer a battery with about 100-kWh worth of capacity, with a driving range of more than 300 miles per charge. DC fast charging capability will be standard, as well as using home power outlets with 19.2-kw Level 2 charging modules. With fast charging, the Lyriq can add about 76 miles of driving range in 10 minutes. The Lyrig will have a one pedal driving mode that relies on regenerative braking for most deceleration.
The Hummer will be offered with three electric motors and 1000 horsepower with an estimated real torque number between 1000 and 1100 lb ft. with all three motors. It comes fully loaded with the Extreme Off-Road package which includes the 35-inch tires, skid plates and rock sliders. Its Crab Walk allows the Hummer EV to travel diagonally by using a four-wheel steer. Additionally, an adjustable air suspension is included. It will have a 200-kwh 24-module double-stacked Ultium pack, making its range 350-miles. All-wheel drive is standard and GMC estimates a Zero-60 mph time of 3.0 seconds.
Conclusion
Cadillac’s first ever electric luxury crossover will deliver a high-performance luxury experience in its new 2023 Lyriq. For a starting price tag under $60,000, this luxury electric crossover will surely catch your attention. The all-electric Hummer EV is full of power at a much higher price tag.
