The 2023 Cadillac Lyriq is a midsize electric crossover that will be Cadillac’s first luxury electric vehicle. It will offer sharp styling and a modern cabin, with a driving range of more than 300 miles. Let’s compare it to the all-electric Ford Mustang Mach-E.
Design
The new Cadillac Lyriq will feature seating for five and a center console that divides the two front seats and a bench rear seat with a touchscreen for the rear seat passengers. The cabin is spacious for passengers to be comfortable, with plenty of legroom. The Lyriq has new vertical signature lighting and a transparent crystal black pseudo grille motif with pinstriping and the Cadillac crest that lights up. There will be four choices of trims: Luxury, Premium Luxury, Sport, and Platinum, with a starting price of $59,995 for the Luxury that ranges to an estimated $90,000 for the Platinum.
The Mach-E will surely catch your attention with its name and body style, not to mention its handsome appointed interior. Its interior is attractive, with modern styling and plenty of quality materials. It seats five passengers comfortably, offering plenty of head- and legroom for everyone, with a spacious back seat and lots of cargo space. It’s trunk space features two trunks – one in the front and one in the rear. The one in the front is known as a “frunk” and has enough space for a carry-on bag, shopping bags, or muddy gear, with 4.8 cubic feet of space. A convenient drainage function also allows you to hose it clean. The rear trunk offers 29 cubic feet of space, which is enough space for most of your needs. If you fold the back seats down, you will get up to 60 cubic feet. There are many available luxury features, such as customizable ambient interior lighting, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and a panoramic sunroof. A convenient floating flip-up armrest on the front center console allows a purse or other items to be stored. New for 2022 is a Mach-E Ice White Edition, that includes a Star White exterior, 19-inch wheels with Oxford White painted pockets, white badging, and a gloss white dashboard. This is only offered on the Premium trim level. Pricing will start at around $44,000.
Power
The Lyriq will come standard with an electric motor on the rear axle and rear-wheel drive. All-wheel drive will be optional, with a second motor added at the front. The rear-wheel drive model is said to produce 340 horsepower. Cadillac claims that the Lyriq will offer a battery with about 100-kWh worth of capacity and a driving range of more than 300 miles per charge. DC fast charging capability will be standard, as well as using home power outlets with 19.2-kw Level 2 charging modules. With fast charging, the Lyriq can add about 76 miles of driving range in 10 minutes. The Lyrig will have a one pedal driving mode that relies on regenerative braking for most deceleration.
The Mach-E will provide up to 305 miles of driving range when paired with the extended-range battery and rear-wheel drive. The all-wheel-drive system ranges 270 miles, and it can apply torque independently to the front and rear axles to deliver impressive acceleration and improved handling. It is available with either a standard range battery or an extended range pack. The sporty high-performance GT model will produce 480 horsepower and up to 634 lb-ft of torque and the less powerful models make between 255 and 332 horsepower and between 206 and 417 lb-ft of torque. Ford’s BlueCruise hands-free driving assistant is a great addition to the Mach-E and is compatible on over 130,000 miles of divided highways.
Technology
A 33.0-inch LED display with an array of colors and a 19-speaker AKG Studio audio system with headrest speakers will be in the interior of the 2023 Cadillac Lyrig. This will feature GM’s new android Automotive-based infotainment system that will display Google Play store for downloading apps, the Google Assistant and Google maps in the cluster directly in front of the driver. The Lyriq also offers available Super Cruise: GM’s highway hands-free driver-assistance technology with automated lane change capability. Key safety features will include automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, available lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, and optional adaptive cruise control with semi-autonomous driving mode.
The Mach-E is up-to-date with new technology. The SYNC 4A is a user-friendly, intelligent and adaptive system, making it easy to personalize your driving experience, while allowing for multiple driver profiles. It offers a giant central touchscreen mounted in the center of the car that controls the car’s primary functions. A second screen in front of the driver displays the speed and range. The Mach-E runs software through the large touchscreen that allows for easy access to the system’s array of apps and features. This also allows Ford to give over-the-air updates and add new content to improve its system. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also compatible with this system. Ford’s standard Ford Co-Pilot360 offers a suite of advanced safety features, including blind spot monitoring, frontal collision warning with automatic braking, and lane keep assist. An optional new hands-free automated driving system called Active Drive Assist can also take over driving responsibilities on approved roads.
