Classic Style: 2022 GMC Yukon
The Yukon and the Tahoe may have a lot in common, but it’s easy to tell them apart from the outside. Each of these three-row SUVs has its own rugged style, but it just so happens we prefer the Yukon. That’s especially true of its classic front end, with its trademark grille and squared-off LED headlamps. However, we will admit that the Tahoe also has plenty of presence, with its own signature lighting design and lots of flashy wheel options.
Power & Performance: It’s a Tie!
You’ll find identical engine options on the 2022 GMC Yukon and Chevy Tahoe, with availability that varies depending on trim level:
- Standard 5.3-liter V8 (355 horsepower, 383 lb-ft of torque)
- Optional 6.2L V8 (420 hp, 460 lb-ft)
- Optional turbo 3.0L six-cylinder diesel engine (277 hp, 460 lb-ft)
Each engine uses a 10-speed transmission to power the rear wheels. Four-wheel drive is available, except in the cases of the Yukon AT4 and the Tahoe Z71, where it’s standard. And both SUVs can lug your big toys around, with max tow ratings of 8,400 pounds, depending on equipment.
Technology: 2022 GMC Yukon
When it comes to infotainment technology and everyday convenience features, it’s tough to tell these truck-style SUVs apart. Both the Yukon and Tahoe come standard with world-class infotainment systems, which include wireless connectivity for their Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone technology.
However, the Yukon comes standard with an upgraded version of the system that includes a 10.2-inch touchscreen. The Tahoe has a standard 8-inch touchscreen, with the 10.2-inch version available on higher trim models.
Safety: 2022 GMC Yukon
When you compare the entry-level Yukon with the entry-level Tahoe, you’ll find a lot of the same safety features, including standard lane-keeping assist and forward collision mitigation. However, you can add upgrades to the base Yukon that aren’t available for its Tahoe counterpart, including optional blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. With the Tahoe, blind-spot monitoring isn’t as widely available. You’ll only find it on the more luxurious trim models, the Premier and High Country.
