The 2021 GMC Canyon is a capable compact pickup truck with excellent work abilities, a new off-road trim and user-friendly features. It is offered in extended-cab and crew-cab body styles, with the crew cab in either a short or long cargo bed that measures 5-foot-2-inches and 6-foot-2-inches. Extended Cab Canyon models seat four people, and Crew Cab models seat five. Its interior is functional; yet spacious, and stylish; yet durable. With four trims to choose, there will surely be one to meet your needs. We are going to take a look at the Elevation, the new AT4 off-road trim, and the top-of-the-line Denali trim.
Canyon Elevation
The Elevation is a step above the Elevation Standard trim and will start with a price of $30,000. With the Elevation, you will get the standard features of the Elevation Standard trim that includes a tilt-only steering wheel, four-way adjustable power driver’s seat, 18” black painted aluminum wheels with black GMC center cap, body-color grill surround and black painted inserts, the available LED fog lamps and High Elevation Package. The Elevation adds more features including leather-wrapped tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, a sliding rear window, body-colored exterior door handles, and remote-locking tailgate. The standard engine on the rear-wheel-drive Elevation is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder, with 200 horsepower and 191 lb-ft of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. An available 3.6 V6 engine, with 308 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic is optional. Technology features include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 7-inch touch screen, six speakers, two USB ports, and Bluetooth. A rearview camera, and Teen Driver are standard safety features.
Canyon AT4
The all-new Canyon AT4 is broken down into two trims: the AT4 Cloth, with a starting price of $38,200, and the AT4 Leather, with a starting price of $40,000. Along with cloth upholstery, the AT4 Cloth has a similar feature list as the Elevation trim. The AT4 Leather comes with leather seats and additional features that include rear parking sensors, a heated steering wheel, wireless device charging, an 8-inch touch screen satellite radio, and HD Radio. This off-road trim adds more features that include 31” Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac tires, LED fog lamps, Unique off-road suspension, and Black Chrome Grille & Grille Surround with red recovery hooks. It’s standard with the High Elevation Package, featuring Unique 17-inch Gloss Black Wheels, Gloss black Performance Exhaust tip, Carbon Black AT4 Logos, Off-Road Rocker Panel Protector, Performance Front & Mid Skid Plates, one-inch suspension leveling kit, and it removes front air dam. All AT4 models come with a 308-horsepower V6 engine, an eight-speed automatic transmission, and four-wheel drive.
Canyon Denali
The Denali is the top-of-the-line trim of the GMC Canyon and has a starting price of $46,700. It adds even more features than the previous trims including 20” diamond-cut machined aluminum wheels, 5” chrome assist steps, six-way power driver’s seat, four-way power passenger seat, leather upholstery, special interior and exterior trim, and heated and ventilated leather-appointed front seats with real wood trim. The Denali comes standard with the 3.6-liter V6 engine, with 308 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Standard advanced safety features include forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and rear parking sensors. A premium seven-speaker Bose stereo, as well as wireless device charging.
An optional turbocharged 2.8-liter diesel four-cylinder with 181 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque that is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission is an option on all trims.
