The 2020 Cadillac CT4 is replacing the Cadillac ATS in an all-new sedan introduced for 2020. It’s one of the more athletic luxury small cars with its potent engines and adept handling. The 2020 BMW 2 Series is another luxury small car to compare. If you are in the Sacramento area, let Reliable Cadillac help you make your choice.
Design
The Cadillac CT4 seats five in its luxury sedan. The CT4 offers several standard luxury features in its cabin, such as 12-way power-adjustable front seats and dual-zone automatic climate control. In higher trims, you are offered leather upholstery, ambient interior lighting, memory settings for the driver’s seat and exterior mirrors, and magnesium paddle shifters. Front seats are first class with available heat, ventilation, and lumbar massage to optimize all your comfort. The CT4 offers 10.7 cubic feet of trunk space for your cargo.
The BMW 2 Series looks great with a modern cabin and quality materials. It offers comfortable front seats, but the rear seats are a bit cramped and are more suitable for kids. The BMW seats four people in coupe and convertible body styles; and in sedan models, it seats five. Your cargo space depends on your body style. Coupe models have the largest trunk, with 13.8 cubic feet, Sedan and convertible models both have around 12 cubic feet, though the space drops to 9.9 cubic feet with the convertible’s top down.
Power and Price
The CT4 was designed to deliver an athletic performance. You can choose between two turbocharged four-cylinder engines for the Cadillac CT4. The base Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Sport models are powered by a 237 hp 2.0-liter engine that is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission; and a 2.7-liter engine is optional in the Premium Luxury and standard in the CT4-V. It makes 309-hp in the Premium Luxury and 325-hp in the CT6-V, and it is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. It gets an estimated 23/34 mpg in the city and on the highway. The CT4 Luxury starts off at a base price of $32,995 and ranges to $44,495 for the top of the line CT4-V.
Each BMW 2 Series model features either a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine or a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six, though the horsepower ratings vary. Most trims come with a six-speed manual transmission, and all trims are available with either an eight-speed automatic or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. The BMW 2 Series base engine is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 248 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. Additional available engines include a turbocharged 2.0-liter four cylinder with 228 horsepower, a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 301 horsepower, a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six-cylinder with 335 horsepower, a turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder with 405 horsepower, and a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder with 444 horsepower. With more powerful engines, comes a higher price tag and the top of the line, M2 CS, ranks the highest. The Series 2 gets an estimated 24/32 mpg in the city and on the highway with the automatic transmission. The M2 Competition gets just 17/23 mpg city/highway. Pricing starts at $35,300 for the base 230i coupe and ranges to $45,800 for the M240i coupe model. Jumping up to the M2 Competition, you’ll start at $58,900, and for the M2 CS you’ll start off at $83,600.
Safety and Tech
Cadillac offers plenty of up-to-date driver-assistance and technology features that can help you see the things you may have missed, including available automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning with lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control. All models come with Cadillac’s latest easy-to-use CUE infotainment system with an 8.0-inch touchscreen and Apple CarPlay / Android Auto, a Wi-Fi hotspot, voice recognition, and steering wheel controls.
An iDrive infotainment system is standard with a 6.5-inch display screen, seven speakers, Bluetooth, and a USB port. It doesn’t offer some features that you’ll find with its rivals, such as Android Auto and a touch screen. Also, Apple CarPlay doesn’t come standard, but is available. Standard safety features include a rearview camera, front and rear parking sensors, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, and lane departure warning.
